GTZ and DOH Held Workshops on
Drinking Water Quality
The Water and Sanitation Program of German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ), in cooperation with the Department of Health and the provincial governments of Bohol and Negros Oriental held workshops for selected municipal LGUs to establish an effective system to monitor the quality of drinking water in these provinces.
Representatives of the municipal LGUs of Negros Oriental, namely Guihulngan, Mabinay, Manjuyod, Bayawan City, Bindoy and Jimalalud participated in the said workshops held on March 24-25 and March 26-27, 2009 at Plaza Maria Luisa Suites in Dumaguete city

In Bohol, municipal LGUs of Loon, Panglao, Garcia-Hernandez, Tubigon and Sagbayan also participated in these workshops which were held on February 17-18 and February 19-20, 2009 at Bohol Plaza Hotel in Dauis, Bohol.

The said workshops prepared these pilot municipalities to establish inter-agency local drinking water quality monitoring committees and draft drinking water quality monitoring sampling plans. The participating LGUs also drafted six-month action plans to make these committees operational.
These committees are mandated to be organized based on the Philippine Sanitation Code to implement the 2007 Philippine National Standards on Drinking Water.
Engr. Joselito Riego de Dios, Chief Health Program Officer of the Department of Health in Manila was the main resource person of these workshops. Mr. Bernard Agawin, the Senior Expert of GTZ Water and Sanitation Program co-facilitated the said workshops.
