MANILA, PHILIPPINES, November 4, 2009. – The winners of the 2009 Water is Life photo contest was announced today during an awarding ceremonies held at the Activity Center of Megamall-A, Mandaluyong City. |
The P20,000 second prize winner went to Mr. Ernie Lacsamana Penaredondo, Jr. for his entry entitled “Water World.” His photograph shows squatter shanties along the seawall of Tondo, Manila being hit by big waves induce by strong winds brought by Typhoon “Kiko.” Mr. Penaredondo is a photographer of Philippine Star. |
The third prize winner of P15,000.00 was awarded to Mr. Karlo Emmanuel M. Victoriano for his entry entitled “Safe Drinking Water?” His photograph which was taken on September 27, 2009, depicts the aftermath of the devastating flood which swept a community in Malanday, Marikina that left mud everywhere and made safe drinking water as the biggest problem among the residents. Mr. Victoriano is a graduate of Asia Pacific College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia Arts. He is currently working on an internship with IP-Egames.
The winning entries were judged based on over-all impact, artitistic merit, and composition and technical excellence.
Judges of this contest are 2009 Ramon Magsaysay Awardee Atty. Antonio Oposa, Jr., professional photographer Mr. Bien Bautista, Atty. Mary Ann Lucille L. Sering, Undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), and Mr. Austere Panadero, Undersecretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.
The 2009 Water is Life Photo Contest also have People’s Choice Awards where the viewing public was asked to vote for their top three choices during the Photo Exhibit held on November 3, 2009. The winners for the People’s Choice Awards are: First Prize (P3,000.00), Mr. Ernie Lacsamana Penaredondo, Jr., for his entry “Water World,” Second Prize (P2,000.00), Mr. Karlo Emmanuel M. Victoriano for his entry “Safe Drinking Water?,” and the Third Prize (P1,000.00), Mr. Joselito G. Arceta, for his entry “Basketball at the Swamp.”
This photo contest was organized and sponsored by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), National Water Resources Board (NWRB), GTZ (German Agency for Technical Cooperation) Water and Sanitation Program, GTZ Adaptation to Climate Change and Conservation of Biodiversity (ACCBio) Project, Manila Water Company, and Philippine Water Partnership (PWP). |
