A workshop entitled Learning Session on Technology Options for Environmental Management Through Sanitation was conducted to present the various sanitation technology options to implement effective and practical facilities for local communities around Laguna Lake.
It was held at the Amang Hall of Rizal Provincial Capitol Compound in Pasig city on March 14, 2007 . This workshop was jointly undertaken by the DILG-German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) Water and Sanitation Program and the Federation of River Basin Councils (FRBC) of Laguna de Bay region, in cooperation with the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
There were 33 participants who attended the workshop. These participants were mostly municipal health inspectors, municipal planning and development coordinators, and representatives from different river basin councils.
During the said workshop, the issue of low access of sanitation in the Philippines , particularly the low access to sewerage facility was presented. Various low-cost sanitation technologies were also presented, which includes Decentralized Water and Sanitation Systems (DEWATS) and Community-Based Sanitation Systems (CBS), Urine Diversion Dehydration Toilet (UDDT) or “waterless” toilet, and constructed wetland.
Ms. Juliana Hinterberger (OIC Program Director of DILG-GTZ Water and Sanitation Program), Ms. Dolora Nepomuceno (Assistant General Manager of LLDA), and Ms, Lina Lutgarda Tanjuatco (President of FRBC) separately presented their statements to open formally the program.
Speakers of the session also include Ms. Ulrike Lipkow (GTZ Water and Sanitation Program Advisor) , Mr. Vicente Delector , Jr. (GTZ Local Technical Advisor), Engr. Sonabel Anarna of the Department of Health, Engr. Jonas Maronilla of Bremen Overseas Research and Development Association (BORDA), and Ms. Fe Banluta, the officer-in-charge of DILG Water Supply and Sanitation Program Management Office (WSSPMO).
